With the dark nights closing in, it makes sense that we prepare ourselves for driving in winter weather.

British weather is unpredictable; harsh conditions can strike at any time without warning. The best advice for driving in fog, ice, snow, wind or heavy rain is: only drive if it is absolutely necessary. If it is unavoidable and you have to take to the road, make sure that you and your car are adequately prepared for hazardous conditions.

To make things simpler, Arnold Clark has created a vehicle health check list to ensure your vehicle is well maintained during the winter months:

Check your car...

•...Battery is fully-charged

•...Tyres have plenty of tread and are the right pressure. Tread should be no less than 3mm for safe stopping in wet conditions; the legal limit is 1.6mm

•...Windscreen wipers are working properly and the blade is not worn out

•...Lights are working and all the bulbs are functioning, especially your fog lights

•...Anti freeze coolant has been added to your radiator

•....Screenwash has been topped up

•...Windows are crack-free, and your rear heated window is working

Always ensure you keep a warm jacket, gloves, umbrella and a torch with you in-case of emergency. Also, try and keep a mobile phone with you and ensure you have the telephone number and details of your breakdown recovery company.
